As someone who has contacted us about our classes, it’s likely that this has crossed your mind.
Here are six tips
1. Seek out a reputable instructor or self-defence program: Look for instructors or programs that are well-respected and have a track record of teaching effective techniques.
2. Practice regularly: Self-defense skills can deteriorate over time if they are not practised regularly. Make sure to set aside time to practice and review what you have learned.
3. Focus on techniques that are practical and effective: There are many different self-defence techniques out there, but not all of them may be practical or effective for everyone. Focus on techniques that are easy to remember and that can be used in a variety of situations.
4. Don’t be afraid to be assertive: Assertiveness can be a key component of self-defence. Practice speaking up for yourself and setting boundaries in your daily life to build your confidence in this area.
5. Trust your instincts: If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Trust your instincts and don’t be afraid to get out of a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
Remember that self-defence is about more than just physical techniques. A quality self-defence school will include non-violent strategies, such as de-escalation and boundary-setting its syllabus. At Krav Maga Somerset we specialise in teaching survivors of violent assault and domestic abuse how to become empowered and confident in 90 days.
With our experienced instructors and a supportive community of peers, we can help you or your child build the skills and confidence they need to thrive.
