Empowering Journeys: Overcoming the 6 Unexpected Hurdles Women Encounter in Self-Defence Classes

Here at Krav Maga Somerset, something I have always been incredibly proud of is the diversity of our members.

Approximately 38 per cent of our members are female but we want to do much better.

At Krav Maga Somerset we understand that there are a number of challenges that many women may face when it comes to starting self-defence classes, from being busy with work, child care, school runs, and other commitments leaving limited time to devote to themselves, or societal pressure and stereotypes that discourage them from learning self-defence or from being assertive in general.

However, there are many benefits for women (and men for that matter) who learn self-defence. Some of the biggest benefits include:

  • Increased confidence: Learning self-defence can help women feel more confident in their ability to protect themselves and be assertive.
  • Stress relief: The physical activity involved in self-defence training can also serve as a form of stress relief and can improve overall mental well-being.
  • Improved physical fitness: Self-defence classes involve physical exercise, which can help women improve their overall physical fitness and strength.
  • Empowerment: Learning self-defence can be an empowering experience, as it allows women to take control of their own safety and feel more in control of their lives.
  • Increased knowledge and awareness: Self-defence training can help women better understand the dynamics of violence and how to avoid dangerous situations.
  • Community: Meeting and training with like-minded people is incredibly rewarding, personally teaching classes is the highlight of my day.

If you have been thinking about starting self-defence training, there has never been a better time to start.

Bye for now and stay safe.
